Is it possible to configure Dynamics CRM for Outlook for a user that does not have local admin rights? RRS feed

  • Hi,

    We are putting together a plan to deploy Dynamic CRM 4.0 for Outlook software to client machines (XP SP 3) in our offices across the world.

    We are hitting a problem with configuring the CRM software (after all the software actually has been installed). The problem is that when the end user logs on and goes through the Dynamics Configuration Wizard, if they are not an admin on the machine, the process will fail.

    The specific error message is as follows, meaning that the user has not got enough permissions in their SQL express instance to perform tasks necessary for successful CRM configuration.

    Action Microsoft.Crm.Config.Client.SetDatabaseCollationAction failed.

    The SELECT permission was denied on the object 'StoredProcedureCatalog', database 'MSCRM_MSDE', schema 'dbo'.

    The DELETE permission was denied on the object 'StoredProcedureCatalog', database 'MSCRM_MSDE', schema 'dbo'.

     

    Running the configuration as a machine admin ensures that SQL tasks in express succeed (because you effectively become a SQL sysadmin).

     

     

    So, I find it hard to imagine that we're the first people to hit the problem with end users needing to be admins the configure outlook for CRM.

    Can someone tell me therefore how CRM for outlook can be configured without needing the user to be an admin?
