Manual backup without scheduled backups

Question
-
Hi:
I need to setup one of my machines so that it is not subject to scheduled backups, but where the user of that machine can initiate a manual backup when it is convenient. (This machine is typically kept in a bedroom and it is not desirable for it to start up in the early morning hours).
Unfortunately, it seems that in order to prevent scheduled backups on that machine, its backup setting needs to be set to "Off" in the WHS console and in that case, the "Manual backup..." entry is disabled on the system tray pop-up menu.
What am I missing here?
Thanks
Lionel

You're not missing anything. By design, Windows Home Server backs up every connected computer every night (or whenever your backup window is set to). Presumably if you don't want to back a computer up automatically, you don't want to back it up at all.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)- Proposed as answer by kariya21Moderator Thursday, February 26, 2009 12:57 AM

Thanks for confirming what I was seeing.
I guess that I have to live with this functionality as it stands, but I still think that the scenario that I described originally is valid and I don't really see any technical reason why manual backups should be disabled just because scheduled backups are turned off.
Thanks
