  • is this new system in working state ? is there any complete list of achievements to unlock ? I dont see a change in rating anyone's post in forums. Has anyone achieved anything yet ?

  • Maybe they are not giving bronze points for existing profiles.

So we all have to edit ours in a meaningless way ?

(What did you add / change)

If that's what you get Bronze / Silver / Gold points for it's hardly an improvement on the old system, is it ?

  • Even I got 2 Bronze now :-P

I went to Edit Profile. put something in each box. Uploaded an image as avatar.

Then I went to gallery, clicked Edit to edit my review of Productivity Power Tools. Rated 5 again and Saved.

    2nd Bronze :-P

He said they are still working..

  • Hello Naomi,

I have done exactly like you and updated my profile . Nothing new ( except the points i am getting on the forums ).

What i am thinking of the achievements, medals ( bronze,...) ? useless, ununderstable ( maybe even the people who have found out these notions have not finished their definition work, if it is right, it would have been better not to have spoken and written about an unfinished topic ).

I have not understood how is working this new recognition system ( maybe because my english is poor ? ). As long as i will think that i can help posters in the forums, i will continue in the same way. A blog ? i have a too much poor english. To create samples in VC#/VB to give some ideas how to use SMO or SQL Server Data Access ? I have many ideas, but i am not sure that my english will not be a blockade for other people reading me.

Sorry for my anger about the new recognition system but it is simply disgusting and without interest ( maybe bad explanations, lack of clearness or not enough defined ).

To conclude, as long as i will understand how it is working , with clear examples, i will ignore this new recognition system.

    Have a nice day

  • To be clear, the new recognition system is only effect for Gallery and Profile contributions at this time. Forums, Wiki, Blogs etc. will be onboarded in the next few months. The Forums continue to use the existing 5 medal/Points system for the time being.

The FAQ link http://msdn.microsoft.com/ff395928.aspx#_Recognition_System has been updated to contain translated versions of the FAQ which I hope will help you understand the current state of the new system and the progress towards migrating Forums to it.

If you read throught the FAQ you'll find that in the new system points are only awarded for providing quality contributions as recognized by other members of the community. Achievements on the other hand are awarded for the things you do (like completing out your profile, contributing samples to the galleries).

We also have a specific forum to talk about recognition further here: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/Profile/threads -- Please join us! :)

  • Sean,

What I don't understand is why Profile changes are recognized for some users and not for everyone as an 'achievement'? I made several changes in my profile using 'Edit Profile' button, but the only Bronze achievement I was able to get when I rated a Gallery sample. Rating more samples didn't increase the Bronze medals, though.

  • I'm more irritated by the fact that when you look at my profile and at my "recent achievements" (Gold, Silver, Bronze) they are all showing zero because of course this function hasn't gone live yet for anything connected to producing good answers in threads.

Surely until the entire (and especially the most important) part of this new system is in place, they shouldn't be making the Gold, Silver  Bronze status visible. It gives the impression that all points for posts; answers etc. were given in the distant past and since then the poster has been sleeping.

  • How to complete your profile?
    Friday, May 17, 2013 10:45 PM
  • Go into 'My Profile' link on the right. On the left hand side right below your avatar you'll see 'Edit Profile' button (white on black background). Press it and complete all sections.

BTW, took me some time to notice that button - it is not easily discoverable.
