Brett** - Sitemaps - www or no www.com RRS feed

  • Question

  • I know yahoo and google penalize a site that has uploaded a sitemap under www.lingerieoasis.com and lingerieoasis.com. I'm told they read this as duplicate content. Does MSN have a similiar penalty?

    Thanks.

  • If you have not canonicalized your site, what you are asking is a possibility. Otherwise, no. We will only use the canonicalized version.

Hi Brett, so what happens when you have properly canonicalized your site and Yahoo continues to show the www and non-www versions in the results?

  • It takes time with Yahoo.  I've seen it happen countless times, it will take them literally weeks to remove the inappropriate version.  Live seems to do it much faster.
