No longer able to download transactions with moneyhandler import--recent problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been using Money Plus Deluxe without changing to sunset. Up until a week ago I could download transactions into my accounts with the money handler and it worked fine with several banks. Suddenly now the handler imports the info but a pop up to microsoft with an error that it must close appears and shuts down the program. The program is trying to update on line and I have to remove it and open a previous backup. Downloading worked fine prior to last week and I have made no changes to the program at all. Any ideas. I hate quicken.

  • This is likely the same problem that exists with MSMoney Sunset running on Windows XP. See

  • The same thing happened to me.  I am convinced that it is because of something in the most recent set of Microsoft security downloads that was issued in mid-December.  I went back to a restore point prior to those downloads, and suddenly Money worked fine again.  Catherine, maybe you want to try that.  Of course I don't want to leave my computer exposed to security threats, so I hope Microsoft will either modify the security download that causes this problem or send a patch for Money 2007 to allow it continue to receive downloads as before.  What do you say, Microsoft????????????  And, Microsoft, please don't say I should download the so-called Sunset edition.  Its functionality is so poor (i.e., no downloads of stock quotes) as to make it useless.  I know you don't support Money 2007 any more, but this is absurd.

  • Yes, this is due to a problem that became evident in Windows XP when the KB2758857 security update was installed.  There are numerous posts in this forum about the problem and its solutions.  I think that the best explanation is at this external site:

    https://microsoftmoneyoffline.wordpress.com/2012/12/02/windows-8-64-bit-version-compatibility-with-sunset-money/

You will note that the problem first surfaced for users running Windows 8 and Microsoft quickly patched it for that OS.  They may do the same for Windows XP, but since MSMoney is discontinued and unsupported, they may not.  In any event, there is a fix to mnyob99.dll that allows KB2758857 to be installed.

BTW, this is a user forum and Microsoft is unlikely to pay attention to requests posted here.

  • Bill,

Thanks for the information on mnyob99.dll, and the link to the site with the same. I downloaded the file, replaced the old dll, and restarted Money (Sunset) after having the same crashes over the past week. It now works fine, both on downloads and on adding a new payee (which is where I first started having the crashes).

    Thanks again.
