eSATA drive limits? RRS feed

  • Question

  • When I started using external USB drives, I was bitten by the problem of connecting more than one drive to a USB controller.

I was wondering if there are any similiar limitations I should be aware of with eSATA drives.

I am thinking about dumping the external USB idea and buying an external enclosure to house several drives with an eSATA interface.

  • You can use an external enclsure for E-SATA. Is it a true E-SATA-port or only an internal port, which has been brought to the outside?
Depending from this the cable length has different limits.

Other limits may apply depending from the controller - so you should read the documentation of the controller or the chip description for any limits, which may apply.
And of course you will have to install the proper storage drivers on your WHS.
