Live One Care - reinstall RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

following an XP issue, i have had to repair the installation, which went well, exept that the One Care didnt work.

everytime it opens it hangs then tells me that it cant continue or the service has stopped.

i have removed it and reinstalled, then i need to reinstate my subscriptian that i only renewed in May 08.

problem is, when i log in with my windows live ID, it tells me that i have no billing history, which is garbage, i have just signed up for my second year. as i cant get my live ID working, i cant get through to customer support and generally feeling a bit fed up.

    can anyone suggest a solution?

incidentally (and i dont know if this related) - i cant get the automatic windows updates working, they just fail?

  • Repair installations of XP can be quite problematic. I suggest copying data off of the semi-functional PC and performing a clean install of XP, then downloading and installing all critical and important updates from Windows Update. Your AU problem is probably due to a mismatch of system files caused by the Repair Install.

    As for activating OneCare,

If you have an active subscription, which is what was created when you activated on the first computer, you need to use the same LiveID on the subsequent activations. If you are arriving at a screen to purchase or provide a token, you are likely not using the same LiveID as the subscription ID.

If you don't recall the LiveID you used for your subscription, you will need to contact support who can provide that information to you using your Key and/or contact information.

How to reach support (FAQ) - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2421771&SiteID=2

Alternatively, sign in at http://billing.microsoft.com with email addresses that you have set up as LiveIDs and one will show your subscription listed - that would the LiveID to use to activate with.
