RDP session timeout RRS feed

  • Question

  • I read several posts relating to remote desktop timeouts and have investigated to see if I'm having the same issues as others have had and have found solutions to.  Unfortunately, mine doesn't seem as easy to solve as many I've read about.

I have investigated the two common reasons for short timeout periods:

    Group Policy (on server):

Under the Local Computer Policy\Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Terminal Services\Sessions folder, the following settings can be made:

    • Set time limit for disconnected sessions
    • Set time limit for active sessions
    • Set time limit for idle sessions
    • Terminate session when time limits are reached

Under the Local Computer Policy\User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Terminal Services\Sessions folder, the following settings can be made:

    • Set time limit for disconnected sessions
    • Set time limit for active sessions
    • Set time limit for idle sessions
    • Terminate session when time limits are reached

And, Terminal Services Configuration (on server):

    • From your computer's Start menu, point to Programs, point to Admin Tools, and then click Terminal Services Configuration.
    • In the right pane of the window, click RDP-Tcp.
    • Click the Sessions tab.
    • Specify the values you want to use.

Neither of these settings are configured, yet I have two distinct users who complain that they get kicked out after short time periods 5-15 minutes.

Any thoughts as to what else to check or how to fix?

    Thanks.
