  • I am getting this message when I test my robot.txt file



    Warning: 'sitemap' - tag isn't specified.

    Can someone help me out?  Thanks.  http://www.universalfloor.net

  • This just means that you do not have the path referenced in your robots.txt file. If you want, you can add this to your robots file:

    sitemap:http://www.universalfloor.net/sitemap.xml
    Program Manager, Live Search Webmaster Tools

  • Thank you for your reply.  I do have my robots already written like this:

    Allow: /sitemap.xml

    Should I have the whole url written like this:

    Allow: http://www.universalfloor.net/sitemap.xml


    Is that why I am getting that message?  Do I need the whole url?

  • As Brent said, what you need to put into your robots.txt file is the line:

    sitemap:http://www.universalfloor.net/sitemap.xml
