What files do I need imported to the Sunset version and which of the old files transferred to the new computer in order for the Sunset version to see my old account register and old data? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a 2007 version of Microsoft Money Plus Home & Business on a computer, which crashed.  I have a new computer running windows 8.1.  Before I transfer Money Data to Quicken, I need all my old data on my new machine.  Following Quicken support advice, I down loaded Microsoft Money Plus Home & Business Sunset edition to my new machine.  What files do I need imported to the Sunset version and which of the old files transferred to the new computer in order for the Sunset version to see my old account register and old data?  What are the file extensions with my data in them?

  • Bring your latest *.mny file mainly. While you are at it, bring your latest 3 *.mbf backup files.

You will normally only need to open one of the files (preferably the *.mny file). The backups are in case there is a problem with the *.mny file and maybe one of the *.mbf files.

  • Hi Cal, thank you for your response tonight.  This afternoon, I looked deeper into the thread and one of your responses back on 11/9/10 provided much the same ideas.  I can see some files and especially data files on the damaged computer, but I didn't know what specific files to pick so I started searching for *.mny; no luck, then I tried *.mbf and found about 7 and several with dates from most recent back ups on 2/26/14.  Copied all them and put them in the new documents file.  Then retried opening money plus and did file open browse to the most recent mbf file.  Low and behold my world light up like the Fourth of July. All was saved and am now progressing toward completing my taxes.  Great advice, thank you very much.
