Failed OGA test but no problems with updates and templates RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear Sir, Dear Madam,

I've just bought an English version of Office Professional 2007.
My version seems to be activared,  I don't have no problem to access to Office Updates or Templates on Office online and I don't have any specific warning or message on my computer.
Anyway, my version doesn't pass the OGA test: licence either stolen, counterfeit or non valid...
Something strange is also the fact I had a message from Avira warning me about a possible trojan in the file LPH.dll on the CD (TR/Crypt.FKM.Gen). But I didn't have nothing with Avast, Spybot or Malwarebytes.

Does anyone have an idea (I also let a message directly on Microsoft support in French)?

You'll find the MGA Diagnostic Tool report:

  • Hello ID 42,

Thank you for visiting the Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) program forum. I understand the inconvenience you are currently experiencing. We have seen numerous issues from customers who were provided a Volume License Key (VLK) on their computer that has either been blocked by Microsoft or generated by a fake product key code generator. WGA currently provides checks for these types of product keys and prompts the user to notify them of this situation. More invalid product keys are being identified daily and WGA is constantly refreshing its database with these newly identified product keys and immediately blocks them.

As a rule, VL editions should not be sold to individual consumers. Businesses, schools and governments normally use VL editions for flexibility in installing many computers.  Also, Volume Licenses for Windows XP is Upgrade licenses ONLY and cannot be used as the original or base license for a new computer.  ID 42 if this is a corporate system please ask your systems administrator to logon to the eOpen site (
https://eopen.microsoft.com/EN/default.asp) and confirm what your company’s assigned VLK. If this computer is not a corporate system please uninstall Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007. Next please restart your computer and try to Validate once again.

You have a couple options available. First you should have been given the option to "Get Genuine" when you failed OGA validation. Here you may purchase an OGA Kit from Microsoft and become genuine. Next you can take the software back where you made the original purchase and either request a genuine copy of Office or return your monies. Next I would recommend for you to file a piracy report by following the directions @
http://www.microsoft.com/piracy. Please locate "Reporting Piracy" in the upper left corner.

    Take care,

    Stephen

  • Greeting Laurent :-)

Also go to http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/whatsnew.htm and run a complete scan using the OneCare Safety Scan. As far as making suggestions for other companies that would fall outside our support scope. It appears you have done an excellent job scanning :-).

Did you purchase Office 2007 through the internet? Who was the French Reseller and does he have a website? Please let us know. Also keep in mind you can purchase an OGA Kit which should have been offered to you @ the time you failed validation. I think the cost is roughly half of the original cost. You may be eligible for complimentary software from Microsoft if the counterfiet software is a high quality copy and other critera is met. This all should be explained by visiting http://www.microsoft.com/piracy . If you purchased the software from an online auction site please contact them and explain what happened. Also if you used a credit card you may be able to dispute the charges.

Let us know what you find out.

Thank you again and take care...

  • ID 42,

Curious you mentioned, "Avira warning me about a possible Trojan in the file LPH.dll on the CD (TR/Crypt.FKM.Gen)". Research has shown that about half of the software copies available on P2P download sites are infected with root kits, spyware, Trojans, and other potentially harmful malware. One file in particular was very alarming.  This file was an administrator account giving the attacker full control over both your system and data.  I would be very concerned about your system integrity because Office 2007 is non-genuine.

Where did you purchase this software from and how long ago? If you used your credit card maybe you could dispute the charges. As I mentioned earlier please file a piracy report.

    Take care

    Stephen

  • Dear Stephen,

    Thanks for your reply.

    * I bought my Office 2007 to a french reseller (who seems to have problems with others customers and who asked me to contact him) : it first seemed to be a serious and official company.  I'll see if I can find an agreement with the company and maybe file a common piracy report. Or I will sue him and make my own piracy report...

    * About the potential spyware or rootkit, I made tests with Avast, Malwarebytes, Spybot, Defender and ASquared which didn't find nothing. Do you have any hints about specific files or could you advise me a software to make disinfections/scanning? So far, I didn't have no problems with my computer. I got the impression Avira warning was a heuristic one, but I'm really not sure...

    Best regards,

    Laurent

  • Thanks, Stephen,

I've used LiveCare on my 2 computers and nothing was found...

I've contacted the reseller and he confirmed me he had a problem with a set of Office 2007 coming from UK. He's supposed to solve it with his provider and to send me a french official version. I'll check this new version with french Microsoft technical staff.

I'll send a copy of our discussion (and WGA report) to the French Reseller. If anything goes wrong, be ensured that I'll file a proper piracy report.

    Best regards,

    Laurent
