  • So where did all the junctions go? -

Have you disabled UAC? If so, please restore it to default settings and try again - make sure that you're running in an Elevated Command Prompt.

  • It's not giving us much to go on here - but

The problem appears to be in the Licensing Store -

    please try the following.....

Recreate the Licensing Store with the correct data.

    1) Open an Internet Browser window.

    2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.

    3) Find the file CMD.exe

    4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'

    5) Type: net stop slsvc (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)

    6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing

    7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar

    8) Type: cd %windir%\system32

    9) Type: net start slsvc

    10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)

    11) Restart your computer twice.

You may be asked to enter your COA Key and/or Activate. – if asked for the Key, use the one on your COA sticker on the machine’s case (you may need to activate by telephone).

Once complete, run another MGADiag report and post back with the results.

  • when I entered in step 10 I received this message:

Input Error: cannot find script file "C:\Windows\Service Profiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing\slmgr.vbs"

I still restarted the computer twice and was prompted to activate windows.  When I click "activate now" I am greeted with another window that says:

Windows must be reinstalled...you must reinstall windows to activate. ( i do not have the windows cd as it came preinstalled on my computer)

    here is the new diagnostic:

  • Why on earth would the system be looking there for that file?- It should be looking in C:\Windows\System32!

Please open an ElevatedCommand Prompt, and run the following commands...

    REG QUERY "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Volatile Environment" /S
    REG QUERY "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Environment" /S
    REG QUERY "HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Environment" /S
    REG QUERY "HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-19\Environment" /S
    REG QUERY "HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Environment" /S
    DIR C:\windows /AL /S
    DIR C:\Windows\System32\slmgr.vbs

    .

    Post the results...

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)

    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.

    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.

    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

  • I think the cause of your problems is the Junctions that exist - they were probably created by malware.

You also have a problem with the PATH statements, I think - but they'll need research..

Before we proceed, please ensure that you have good backups on external media!

Then open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands.

    CD C:\windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local
    DEL "Application Data"
    DEL "History"
    DEL "Temporary Internet Files"

Post the results and reboot - then run the command

    DIR C:\Windows /AL /S

and post the results - this will allow us to check the results are as expected before we proceed further.
