  • Question

  • Hello,

I woke up one morning to find my screen black and a warning of potentially being scammed by a vender, etc. Anyhow, I used to work for a technical college and had my computer built, setup, and maintained by the IT dept. I had no problems for 6 years or better. Hoping I dont have to buy windows 7. Either way, I read in another forum you need to see the reports. Hope someone can help. so here they are:

  • In that case you may need to create a Repair disk to be able to do this...

Open Backup and Restore by clicking the Start  button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Backup and Restore.
    • In the left pane, click Create a system repair disc, and then follow the steps.
      Administrator permission required
If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  •  File Scan Data-->
     File Mismatch: C:\Windows\system32\en-US\user32.dll.mui[6.1.7601.17514], Hr = 0x800b0100

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-click on the Command Prompt entry

Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

    At the Command prompt, type

     CHKDSK C: /R

    and hit the Enter key.

You will be told that the drive is locked, and the CHKDSK will run at the next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.

The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size  of the drive, so be patient!

After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally  (possibly after a second auto-reboot) - then run the SFC.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-click on the Command Prompt entry

Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

    At the Command prompt, type

    SFC /SCANNOW

    and hit the Enter key

Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.

Upload the CBS.log file (compressed, please!) to your OneDrive or DropBox Public folder, and post a link - also post a new MGADiag report.

  • Sorry about the delay - things keep getting in the way.

I'm also sorry to have to tell you that your install of Windows 7 Ultimate is counterfeit.

The installed Product Key is a generic Key which would only work in ACER computers preinstalled with Windows 7 Ultimate, and your appears to be based on a Retail motherboard, and as such doesn't have the required certificates to be able to  activate the Windows license.

Your only option based on what I see here is to purchase a new genuine Windows License - probably for Windows 10

  • Thats nuts, Ive had this PC for at least 3 years with this install and a Tech Center installed it. Makes no sense. I definitely wont be doing Win10. Absolute worst!

Thank you for your time, guess I need to call the tech center, lol!

The Product Key appears to be a Retail one - but I'm far from certain that it's fully genuine. Did you get BOTH DVDs and the proper box and Proof of License card with it?

  • Unfortunately, when I was working for the local tech school I had them do it. No worries, I just wonder why it did what it did. Do you see a fix for now? Im building my PC and dont want to use the new win7 and key with my old system.

  • If you didn't receive 2 DVDs, and the original box with the POL card inside, then the chances are that the license is a MSDN-type subscription one, which may have expired or over-run their licensing allotment.

Having said that, it may be possible to fix the remaining error in the CBS log by substituting a known-good copy from another system.

I'll have to check on the various copies I have as to whether this is the same file for all editions, or changes per edition (I think it's the same). If it's the same, then we can do a substitution and see what happens to the licensing then.

I'll be back when I can find the time!

  • I've uploaded a file - plmaa.zip - to my OneDrive at http://1drv.ms/1Tts1dZ

    Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...

Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract

Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)

Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'

    Pick that

You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt

    At the prompt type

    DIR C:\plmaa

hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try

    DIR D:\plmaa

    or

    DIR E:\plmaa

The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

    XCOPY   <drive>:\plmaa    <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

    (e.g. XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )

run the command (it should take almost no time) and when the prompt returns, type

    EXIT

and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt

then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your reply

Run another MGADiag report, and post that, as well.

  • There was no option to repair my computer in Advanced Boot Menu. I tried quite few times.
