Website not listed in direct search RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am having a problem with my indexing in MSN. When I initially did a search for my targeted keywords in MSN, I noticed my site was not showing up at all. I then did a direct search for my domain name and that did not show any results except for a couple of pictures I have on my site. No pages at all showed up. I then did a siteBig Smileomain search and it showed my index page and my sitemap.html page listed. I also did a URLBig Smileomain search and it only showed my index page listed. I then signed into the webmaster tools and resubmitted my site and my sitemap.xml file and pasted the validation meta tag into my index page and published it. I also validated my robots.txt file and it showed no errors.

Can anyone tell me why my website was dropped from all the listings? I am also paying for advertising through Microsoft adCenter and am pretty upset if my site isn't showing up on it's own. I have some minor Transitional XHTML code errors that I still need to work out, but my site still displays properly. I can't see this causing my site to be stripped from the searches all together though.

    Site: www.accuracyinspections.com

    Robots.txt: www.accuracyinspections.com/robots.txt

    Site Map: www.accuracyinspections.com/sitemap.xml

Can someone please help me out here and tell me what I can do to get listed in the searches again?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Same problem here: www.ellijaycabinrentals.com

For years we have had some phrases ranked #1 and #2 in Live Search (ellijay cabin rentals)

Two months ago we thought we just lost rank/position. After further review we realized we had lost all indexing in Live Search. If you search for the url or any unique phrase or sentence from that website it returns zero results. Unique quoted phrases that appear as the only result in Yahoo or Google return zero results in Live search. Webmaster tools say we are not blocked as do two e-mails from Live Search support and a final e-mail from Microsoft Global Escalations. They sent us here.

    unique phrase examples:

    Live Search - http://search.live.com/results.aspx?q=%22The+Appalachian+Mountains+in+North+Georgia+are+a+gateway+to+outdoor+adventure%22&src=IE-SearchBox

    Yahoo - http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=%22The+Appalachian+Mountains+in+North+Georgia+are+a+gateway+to+outdoor+adventure%22&ei=utf-8&fr=b2ie7

    Google - http://www.google.com/search?q=%22The+Appalachian+Mountains+in+North+Georgia+are+a+gateway+to+outdoor+adventure%22&rls=com.microsoft:*&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1

If not one single keyword , phrase, or quoted sentence is returned by Live Search wouldn't you think you are blocked?

    Help!

    Thanks

    David

  • Same problem here, our site ranks in the top 10 in google and yahoo but it fails to be indexed at all in Live. It happend a while ago and was pretty much a change from one day over the next.

    the site is http://www.hairstylesdesign.com/

making a search for our domain name yeilds 0 results.

On an interesting note, when I do an advanced search in live to look at who is linking to my domain name, only 4 results show up, all from yahoo answers.
    http://search.live.com/results.aspx?q=link%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.hairstylesdesign.com&go=Search&form=QBRE

yet in the webmaster tools, it is telling me i am getting 10 really good links from sites like these:
    http://www.becomegorgeous.com/
    http://www.thehairstyler.com/links.asp
    http://www.prom-dresses.com/hairstyles.html

This is incredibly weird. Those 3 links do NOT show up in live search's advanced search at. Only the 4 weak little links from yahoo answers.

To add to the weirdness, when I simply type hairstylesdesign I get several pages in the results and they all link to us. Straight up I recognize the top 20 as they are linking to us.

    anybody else seeing these problems?

  • There is hope, two of our back pages were indexed last night and have search results.

We've tried everything.  We finally gave up and deleted the site from live tools.  Emails have been sent to their spam address but they auto-respond saying their is a huge backlog, they'll get to it whenever they can.

  • the same exact thing is happening with www.boconline.com the site used to be #1 in MSN but ever since you switched to live search things have only gone down hill and it seems that it is happening to a lot of users. the partner in question has bee loosing at least $3000.00 a month for over two years now, and he is a Microsoft Certified Partner. up until today i could pull up 1 result using site:www.boconline.com....now not even one....why is this, and what can you do to help this partner out?

  • I also am having the same problem.  The site www.shoppingdelights.com is about six months old.  There are no redirects, and I don't have it listed any other way, except for the page names.

It shows that it is listed and also shows that it has been crawled by MSN, albeit, there is a page shown that has been changed and MSN still shows the old page.  I have a validation meta tag & a sitemap.

I constantly attempt a direct search using the web address, in Live Search.  This should technically bring up the site at the top of the list on the Search Engine Results.

    Well, you guessed it.  "Nothing."

I don't have this problem with Google or Yahoo.  Both show it correctly at all times.  Granted my ranking is still pretty low.

Can I get any help with this?

I tried the quoted sentence "Gap's Holiday Classics Redefined" and you come up as the only hit on Yahoo and Google but nothing on Live search. That looks like the same problem we had.

I'm curious how the correction is being applied?

  • I too am having a similar problem, I am redesigning a site which had average to poor SEO previously and is now top for our key words in all search engines bar Live/MSN.  If I do a direct domain search I get an old cached page and that' it.  Given that the site was changed over end of December/early January I can only assume that either their servers are overwhelmed and can't deal with the number of indexing requests or there is some kind of problem with the way in which they are indexing.

I have used the webmaster tools and manually submitted for bot crawling to no avail, I just hope it starts to crawl soon, as this problem is losing people money.

  • Ahhh .. I see, i was beginning to worry as our website http://kaanza.com had 444 pages listed on Live. I was thinking to modify my pages so that Live Search Bot can list all of them, But the fact confuses when i see more than 16000 pages are listed on Google and Yahoo search.

Most people have explained their problems but no angel has come yet to provide the solution.

My site completely disappeared from MSN since mid 2007, I left my post at the forum. Jeremiah Andrick said he would talk to the Live team. But nothing has been changed. However, to my suprise, at Live webmaster tool, the indexed pages increased from 435 to the present 732. The problem is that still I can't see the site at MSN search result.

    In December, 2007:

Website address: www.easytourchina.com Indexed pages: 435
    Last crawled: 0000-0-0 Blocked: No

    In January, 2008

Website address: www.easytourchina.com Indexed pages: 732
    Last crawled: 0000-0-0 Blocked: No

In the past few weeks, I tried to resubmit my site to MSN, and it still doesn't work. I really have no idea what is going on with MSN search engine.

  • DBlizzard,

Thanks for your reply.  I've been away for a few days and this is the first chance that I've had to write.

I just tried to Live Search again and when I enter www.shoppingdelights.com I get nothing.  However, I also tried, for the first time, entering http://www.shoppingdelights.com and five pages showed up.  When I entered, "Shopping Delights" I get nothing.

Could someone explain why it comes up with the http:... and not when you enter www...?

Finally, how often do the average users enter http... when they enter a URL or do a search?

  • Hi,

Running a search for "home inspection philadelphia", you showed up ranked #5. The fact is, you are in a heavly competitive sector with big players like phila1 lined up in front of you on most of your keyword phrases. I highly recomend reading our blog post:  http://blogs.msdn.com/webmaster/archive/2008/01/11/i-m-not-ranking-in-live-search-what-can-i-do.aspx.

  • Hello Ricky Yang,

I had the same problem till the end of Feb 08 as you've mentioned, peeved like you are !

Our pages were disappeared from Live in Jan 08 and later showing 300 to 400 indexed pages, as i posted my issue in this thread on the first page. Well, the case has changed now, 56,100 pages are indexed till today, increasing day by day.

I didn't do something major but did some minor changings in my website such as:

    • Proper usage of Meta Tags (Keywords and Descriptions),
    • Some changins in the Page Title,
    • Used header tags in my pages <h1><h2>...
    • Placed my JS in external files so the pages could be downloaded faster,
    • Alt attribute in in the images,
    • Title attribute in the links,
    • and Finally linked my pages properly so that bots can traverse easily.

    Hope it would help You..

Write me if you need more help.
