Windows 7 Ultimate get message that this copy of Windows isn't genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

My name is Ella and I have an MSDN subscripton.

About half a year ago, I downloaded a product key for Windows 7 Ultimate from my subscription

My computer is 64 bit and I also have Windows 7 SP1 installed.

This week, I suddenly got a message that this copy of Windows isn't genuine. I activated a new key through my MSDN subscription and changed the key on my PC, but that didn't help either. I still got the same error message.

I called MSDN support and they also saw I used the key just once and that the installation was from MSDN. They offered I post a detailed error here and I do hope you can help me.

This is what I got from the MGA diagnostic tool:

  • That looks as if the Key has been blocked for some reason - the 0xC004F200 (non-genuine) is not an error we see very often without other indications.

I have no idea where to start looking for a solution on this.

I would suggest that you see if you can get hold of the MSDN Concierge, and discuss the problem with them.

Point them at this thread so they can see the output - they may even be able to comment in-thread (We should be so lucky!)

Please let us know the outcome.

  • Please first try recreating Licensing Store.

    Recreate the Licensing Store

    1. Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories
    2. Right-Click      on Command Prompt and select Run as      Administrator - accept the UAC prompt
    3.  Run the following commands in the Command      Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each

    net stop sppsvc

(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

    CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform

    REN tokens.dat tokens.bar
    net start sppsvc
    slui.exe

    1. After a couple of seconds Windows Activation dialog will appear.

You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key or Activation may occur automatically.

If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case

Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report
