Server 2008 in an existing W2k3/OCS Domain RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is it possible to install und (promote) a w2008 server in an existing w2k3 domain? I have heard that after this, the OCS goes “down”, because the w2008 expands the schema. And so the OCS server won’t work anymore. I think that an OCS 2007 won´t work ON a w2008 server – and it isn’t supported (in production.) but what happens with a server2008 IN the existing domain?

  • Adding / Promote a w2008 server should not harm the OCS 2007 servers or the active schema extensions made by OCS2007.

We ran OCS2007 (with SE, Edge, Mediation, an IP-PBX, Gateway, etc.) for more then a year before upgrading nearly all of our servers to 2008 (especially all DC's are 2008 now).

We did not expierenced any negative side effects during and after this (4 or 5 months). We decided to continue to run the OCS servers on 2003.

    Best regards,

  • Actually Microsoft recommends that you re-run the ForestPrep command for OCS 2007 after migrating Active Directory up to Windows 2008, as some UI elements will vanish and a new server or pool cannot be added.
