How to get a relyable report of licences consumed RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Im trying to get a O365 licence report in powershell of our tenant, to detect when we have to buy more O365 licences before get blocked by Azure to assign more  to our Employees.

Currently, we are using the (ActiveUnits - WarningUnits - ConsumedUnits) formula,  obtained from the Get-MsolAccountSku cmdlet but this number, althought appears as negative number, does not prevent us to assign more licences.

What happen when the result is negative? For example: -10

In the documentation it says that WarningUnits has a 30 days trial, that would have sense in the enviroment but in my current tenant, we do not have WarningUnits (its equal 0)  and the ActiveUnits are lesser than ConsumedUnits.

The information that we would like to get is, how those licences are handled (30 days grace period, next month billing...) and if is there a limit to reach(percentage or something) where after that, you won't able to add more licenses or otherwise, Can we assign unlimited licence that will have to be bought next month?

Additonallly it would be enough for us, to get a reliable number of the licences that remains before Azure AD prevents you request more?

Thank you very much in advance.

  • You will need to post O365 specific questions to the O365 community forum.
