Question: Can I give a public address of a file on server to a friend? RRS feed

  • Question

  • So I am curious if this can be done.  I would like to be able to email a link to a friend of mine for certain documents.  I was wondering if this can be done.

For example lets say I have schedule.doc on my server under the public folder.  Is there a way where I could then give my friend a url address, like xxxx.homeserver.com/Public/schedule.doc?  (or something like that)

Is this in the field of FTP and would installing Filezilla work for this or is this something that just can not be done?

  • Wouldn't it be easier to create a user account for your friend, assign a password, create a folder, share it and make it accessible for him while limiting his access to any other shared folder?

So he could log in via Remote web access and download his files from that folder.
