Virus replaces OneCare RRS feed

  • Question

  • A virus replaced my Live OneCare installation with its own bogus computer security software.  The SW claimed to have identified 38 threats on my system and gave me a selection of credit cards to buy a utility to remove the threats.
Proceeding unprotected was allowed but access to the SW removal utility in Control Panel was denied.  I had to Reinstall WINDOWS XP from scratch to get rid of this "security" program and reinstall Live OneCare.  OneCare virus scans turn up no unwanted threating viruses on my computer now.  Does the OneCare team no about such a threat? What do I need to Do?

  • There is currently very little defense against rogue antimalware applications. I'm sorry to hear you had to reinstall Windows. One Care support is very good at helping to remove this type of malware and would be a good first choice should you become infected again.
