Yes, I also had some problems with that yesterday. It seemed that it was related to my newsreader having problem to access some forums, so that it kept on retrying. Suddently, I would get this error, which means "authentication failed". Restaring the NNTP bridge would not help. However, patience did. That is, some 30-60 minutes later I was able to connect again. Seems to be a temporary lockout.

Hi All,
Unfortunately, I gave up, I have tried on Windows 8, 8.1, Windows server 2012 & 2012 R2, with proxies, virus protection and firewalls. To absolutely no Firewall, proxy, Virus Protection turned off, EHC Turned Off, Wireless and Wired.. All using Windows Live Essentials 2012 with Windows Live Mail. This used to work a few years ago prior to the changes in the forums. I think its awesome you have taken the time to give back to the community, I am just disappointed I cant get it to work...
Other Tools on my desktop and Laptop and Laptop SQL Server 2014, Visual Studio 2013, Resharper, DevExpress, Reflector, Office 2013, Project 2013, and Visio 2013 with a bunch of SDKs probably the same ones your using for SharePoint, SQL, Azure, Windows and WP Apps.
Behaves like an authentication issue, and fiddler appears to support that as well.. if you note the "Passport Header Not Found" is seems like its not keeping the token after authentication and passing it to the forums during redirection ...

Hi all!
Just to notify you: There is a completly new NNTP bridge for thios forums ;)
There is a new REST based-web service which gives access to the MSDN forums. Based on this, I developed a NNTP-Bridge so you can access the forums with a normal newsreader.
You can find the new project here: https://communitybridge3.codeplex.com/
Be aware, that you have to enable NNTP access in your user profile!
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me, post here or post an issue on codeplex
