Where would I ask the question, why does the Computer Properties window show a different amount of RAM than the Task Manager? I am also not referring to the 200MB-1GB that the system uses. The Computer Properties window shows 8GB (which is what
I expected - it is the amount that Dell originally installed on the computer), but the Task Manager only says 4GB. The machine is 64-bit, so there should be no problem there in terms of PAE. It is running Windows Web Server 2008 R2. According
to Microsoft's website (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/r2-editions-overview.aspx), this edition allows up to 32GB RAM, so no problem there either.
The only thing that I found that seemed like it should work (there is no BIOS setting for memory remapping on Dell BIOS 1.2.4), is a Hotfix. The issue is that when I go to the Hotfix page and try and download it (while on the Web Server machine), it
only allows me to download the Windows Vista edition (which I tried installing anyway, but as expected is not compatible). The link to the Hotfix (KB950233) is here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950233. The Title of the page even says it is for Windows Server 2008, but does not allow you to download that version of the Hotfix.
Thanks for your help!
