Does a RAID 5 configuration is recommended using WHS 2011 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi! I'm looking to buy a NAS or WHS that I will build myself. For NAS, I'm looking at QNAP and Synology with 4 drives and RAID 5 configuration. I can build a WHS for the same price with a motherboard containing a Intel Atom D525 processor that will give me USB 3 connectivity and video output for a TV. I' also looking at using a Motherboard wit H57 Chipset and Intel 13-540 Processor that will offer me RAID 5 Capacity. Of course the price is a little bit higher and the server will use more energy.

My question is : Do I have any benefit of using RAID with Windows Home Server 2011? Will it be complicated to configure and maintain? Should I stick to a more simple config like the Atom D525 with only 2 hard drive?

Thank you everyone for any help you can provide.
