  • I bought a computer with pre-installed Microsoft XP home edition. The sticker for the product key is on the side of the laptop. Every time that I type this in I get a message saying that the code is incorrect and to verify the key. I have tried several times. Please help!

Thank you for responding to this.

I suspect that you are attempting to activate Office using the Product Key on the COA sticker - that Key is for Windows, not Office (as it states on the sticker itself) Windows and Office are two separate things,
You have a Trial install of Office 2007 - if you wish to continue using Office after the trial's expiry, you will have to purchase a license for it. MS have stopped selling Office 2007 editions, since Office 2010 was released in September. Your best option would be to go to the Office 2010 web site, and download the trial from there, after uninstalling the Trial of O2k7 - install the new Trial, and you can then purchase a license for whichever version of Office 2010 you wish. Other options include using OpenOffice.org instead, which is a free download.

Note also that your machine appears not to have been updated at all ( the 'Validation Control not Installed'), - you should install Service Pack 3 and then update again until at least all Express Updates are installed.

Please REMOVE your product key, unless you want it blocked!
To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
    Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.

  • Hello Northland,

Nope, your problem is completely different.

Please start a new thread and copy your report into it, rather than hijack someone else's thread.

Also need to know if there is any sort of Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) affixed to the computer case/chassis...if so, tell us what version and edition of Windows is listed on it, but don't post the product key.
