CRM 4.0 Outlook client - Defaults to Offline Client, cannot install Online Client RRS feed

  • Hi,

    I'm working with an older laptop, a Dell Latitude D620.
    XP Pro SP 2
    Outlook 2003 SP 3

    When I go to install the Outlook client, I'm never given the option to install the simple online client. It automatically begins installing the Offline client and SQL. It fails with an error saying "Installation of Prerequisites Failed."

    I uninstalled BCM and have tried everything else to install the client, including manually removing everything it installs, etc. This computer did have the 3.0 client at one time.

    Any ideas?

  • Thanks Rhett. I tried that multiple times, but that's definitely helpful. I found some registry keys not mentioned in that article and deleted them. I did it all at once, so I'm not sure which was which, but I believe the MSCRM key had a subkey called "isthinclient", and it was set to 0, meaning it was not. This was somehow overriding my install and never asking me which type of installation I wanted to do.

    But the key definitely was deleting the registry stuff. The main problem was that the machine was on death's doorstep. Those always give the most problems.
