Dynamics CRM 4 - Setup Recurring Opportunities RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm sure this cannot be a question asked rarely but we have CRM 4 internally and all opportunities are tracked though it. The process is very straight forward, we generate an opportunity, generate a quote around the opportunity and finally mark the opportunity as won or lost... easy enough.

The issue we have is we're providing broadband, online backup, support contracts etc all of which are monthly, quarterly or even annuall. The reports we run for sales are based on won opportunity revenue, so as you can see we have a problem, we're getting incorrect monthly sales figures for the sales personal selling monthly services.

Does anyone know how to make an opportunity that recurrs every month until you stop it..?

  • Leverage workflows to create a new Opportunity when one closes.  You'll want to have a data field that you can use to evaluate the Opportunity when it is closed as Won to determine if you need to create another Opportunity.  If you add products from inventory to your Opporutunity to calculate the value, then you will want to send an e-mail notification to the Opportunity Owner to let them know they have an Opportunity that requires products.  Otherwise you could create a custom workflow to create the products.

  • Well, if you wan´t to work with opportunities for that, take a deeper look at http://blog.systematicainc.com/2009/07/dynamics-crm-recurring-service-activities/

This should work for opportunity as well

  • When I sold hosted CRM on a subscription basis we had one opportunity, one master order and 12, 24 or 36 monthly sub-orders so we could track the expected monthly revenue. This took a significant amount of custom development because we had to take the order products from the master order and split them into different units for the sub-orders, and we updated the total revenue of the master order if any of the sub-order quantities changed, etc.

If you want something simpler, you could write a workflow rule to create a copy of your won sales opportunity every month. But this wouldn't work if you are using system generated pricing, only user provided pricing.
