Off Topic: re formating windows

  I'm looking to format my computer and re-install windows.

   

  However, i can not find my registrey key. I have a current valid windows xp home. and my product ID is good.  but i want to completely wipe my hard drive and re-install windows.

   

  Is there a way that i can have my windows xp validated before i wipe my system? so that i am able to re-install windows? Does my Product ID have anyhing to do with this?

   

  Or how does this work?
