32 vs 64 bit WHS OS RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been testing WHS on an old 32 bit desktop and am impressed enough to buy/build a new server box to make WHS a permananent part of my home network.  When I look for software, I can't tell for sure whether there is a 64 bit version of the OS available.  The forums make it plain that there is no 64 bit connector available yet, but I haven't found out about the OS itself.  The HP WHS box says its processor is 64 bit, but doesn't say it runs in 64 bit mode.

What is the scoop on a 64 bit version of the OS?  Available now or not?

Currently there is only a 32 bit version of WHS. That may change in the future, and in fact, the documentation that comes with WHS says that in the future it might only be a 64 bit version.

  • Thanks for the info.  Looks like I'll get a 64 bit capable box for the future and run it in 32 bit mode to start.
