I have found it impossible to update (paying for new subscription ) for Windows OneCare. I had purchased a hard copy retail and registered it...BUT this concept was too complicated for the Microsoft OneCare workers to understand ...so they would not take my money and upgrade.for the second year

In spite of even phoning from NEW ZEALAND,the person on the phone was downright rude

SENDING REQUESTS FOR HELP via email ignored completely.

NO-ONE SEED TO GRASP THE IDEA THAT MY OLD HOTMAIL ADDRESS HAD BEEN DEFUNCT (due to m.s.n deciding that my password was suddenly wrong some time back)  I registered another hotmail address without complaint......,.

STILL USING THE SAME I.P address   same email address pop3 server.  STILL USING THE SAME 2 COMPUTERS (at home myself the only user) BUT BECAUSE the old hotmail address had been zapped   there was no way around it....IT WAS A PRETTY SIMPLE REQUEST-----

I have just downloaded A.V.G to my laptop comp     what a difference they were happy to take my money and were polite too.

I am still using OneCare on this P.C until the time time runs out. then A.V.G will replace OneCare on this p.c. as well.

I really liked using OneCare it is a program I have recommended it to many people  It appears I will have a lot of apologising to do  when their subscriptions run out.....seeing that they also paid for a disk and licence and are unable to upgrade

    Nola..

  • I,too, am really disappointed in this so-called protection. It is very slow and any time I try to update, it does nothing. At times, it even says my firweall is off but when I check.. it is on! I am simply sick that I spent hard earned money on something so incredibly awful ................

  • If your subscription was created with an old Hotmail address, since canceled and closed, you would not be able to renew your subscription as a subscription is not transferable. You would need to create a new subscription with your new LiveID.

Note that the old Hotmail address may be "defunct" for email purposes, but it remains a valid LiveID as it is your Billing account.

I'm sorry that your support experience was unpleasant. If you have a case ID, I can forward your complaint to support management for investigation.

Your post is attached to a post that is unrelated to your issues, so it got moved to the Install and Activate topic as part of the thread move.

If you are having update problems, see this post:

If the OneCare firewall is reported as being off by Windows Security Center, but it is on within OneCare, see this post:

  • I also had a problem with my subscription. When I went to sign in it also denied my password. Yet, I can sign on to Windows Live with no problems. All I keep getting when I try to subscribe is error code 80048265. I went to the help center it had no referance for that code at all. If I can't find a way around these issues One care will be removed completely, followed shortly with Windows Live.

  • I have not seen this issue in a while, but it can be caused by a long password. If your LiveID password is longer than 8 characters, change it to be 8 characters or less at http://account.live.com and try again.

If this does not work, please contact support.
