Restore backup question re OneCare

My hub pc has stopped working. I want to restore my backup done through OneCare to a different pc A that is part of my OneCare circle. However this pc A does not have enough disk space. My backup drive is a Fujitsu handy drive compatible with xp and vista. My choices seem to be to buy a new pc with xp or vista, or restore to an external drive attached to this other pc A in my circle. As I am having trouble logging in to OneCare from this other pc A I have not been able to contact OneCare support. Likewise I wonder if I could actually add a newly bought pc to my circle. My OneCare subscription runs out in 5 days. A separate question is can I restore my backup without using OneCare? Any suggestions or help wold be appreciated.

You can restore to a new PC, even if that new PC is using Windows 7, using the Restore Tool - http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/onecarebackupandrestore/thread/e5d686c8-762b-4b22-bc08-bfb93f911e57

In the worst case, you can restore the backup manually by extracting the data from the .zip file on the backup using WinZip or other 3rd party compression utility. Any files that were split by OneCare backup need to be rejoined using this free utility: http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/
