Mesh taking a long time to begin uploading a new file RRS feed

  • Question

  • Whenever I add a new file to a mesh folder, it takes at least a minute before Mesh will begin uploading it to the cloud.  How can I get rid of this delay?  I have a shared work folder and often add documents to the folder while on the phone with others in the folder, causing them to become frustrated that it takes minutes, not seconds, for them to get the document.  I want to use mesh, but right now it's much faster to simply email the document.

  • In my understanding, this is by design. Mesh currently doesn't support delta sync. So to avoid having to upload the file too often, it waits a while before it starts the upload - assuming that you might want to edit the file you just created/added. In many cases this makes sense, in your situation it would be desirable that the upload starts immediately. Unfortunately this isn't something you can configure.

You can add this suggestion on connect.microsoft.com (please search first to see if a similar requirest ecists already) and then post the link here so that others can vote on it. See also http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/LiveMesh/thread/7ec4f88b-9caa-4b25-aa8d-f7ccc3db63c8

  •  Hi,

One request that we've seen from a number of customers is a "force sync now" option that would cause Live Mesh to immediately sync a given file or folder.  Please feel free to add your vote for this idea, or add a new idea of your own, to our Suggestions.

    Thanks,

    Ben.

  • I should add that Dropbox doesn't have this problem.  It begins uploading to the cloud the second you add the document to its folder, and downloading on other computers immediately after.
