How do I tell which version I have. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I recently built my own WHS and have downloaded the trial software.  I have been using WHS for about 1 week and I have come to the realization that this is something that I absolutely need to purchase, and I wanted to do it soon before I fill up the server, and then I have to spend my time unloading it to install a full version, and then filling it back up.

I am amazed at how handy WHS is.  But it appears that I am confusing myself.  Is the evaluation software WHS 2003 or 2008?  Is it 32 bit or 64?  Is there even 64 bit available for purchase, as I can only find 32 bit.  I can't figure out how to even check on the server what version it is (Actually the information says Windows Home Server Console:6.0.2030.0, but to be honest I don't know if this is 2003 or 2008, or 32 or 64 bit).

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as well as if somebody could point me in the direction of where to buy a 64bit version of WHS2008 (if it exists), that would be fantastic.

  • There is only one version of WHS available -- it is based on Server 2003 Small Business technology. This of course makes it a 32-bit only O/S. There are various rumors out regarding WHS vers 2 being based off Server 2008 Small Business tech -- but nothing has been released from Microsoft. To find what patched version of the software you are running long into your Windows Home Server Console - select setting from the top right of the screen -- and select Resources from the bottom left panel. Hope that helps.
