Transfer Money 2000 file to new PC with Windows 8 needs password for file RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have loaded Money 2000 onto my new Windows 8 PC.  When I try to load the Money 2000 data

( the .mny file), copied and pasted via a memory stick, it says I need a password.

I have never used password.  Is there any way to overcome this?

    Thank you

  • Are you sure that the *.mny file was created with Money 2000 and not a newer version?  Money tends to incongruously throw up a Password Needed message in that circumstance.  Read the first sticky in this forum and download the UK version of Money 2005.  See if it works then.

  • You will have a file   SAMPLE.MNY  in the Microsoft Money folder within your Program Files folder on your primary drive (if you installed Money 2000 correctly); it is likely to be 2304KB and dated 1999-08-04 ~ can you open that file?

If you can't then I doubt you installed Money 2000 successfully.

I use Money 2000 which runs perfectly on my Windows 7 32bit laptop but have been told it will not run on any 64bit OS.

Do you know the word size on your new Windows 8 PC - 32bit or 64bit?
