Windows Vista Home Premium - Invalid License?? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I bought a new HP Pavilion dv9933nr about a month or two ago. My computer is a 64-bit with 4gb and, A few weeks ago I turned on my laptop and it would not let me sign in to my computer, so I did a recovery hoping it would fix my problem , and it did up until today when I turned on my laptop to find a screen that says that my windows product key is invalid. How can I fix this?

  • Hello Preachera07,

It appears that your Vista just needs to be Activated by Phone

    To Activate by Phone:

    a)    If you have access to the Start button: Click the Start button, and type slui 4 in the search field and then press the "Enter" key. This will bring up the Activate by Phone dialog window. Follow the steps provided by the window. The phone activation process should only take about 6 minutes.

    b)    If you do not have access to the Start button: Reboot and login to Vista, a dialog window will come up. In that window, click the option "Access computer with reduced functionality". Once you do that, Internet Explorer or Firefox browser will open. In the address bar type c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe press enter, a new window will come up, type: slui 4 and hit enter and follow steps to Activate over the Phone.

NOTE: The important thing to this process is that you need to talk to a Live Activation Rep! When you first call, you will be interacting with an Automated Voice, either select the option to talk to a Live Rep or if there is no option, do not enter any numbers. This should force the automated voice to transfer you to a Live Rep.

    Thank you,
    Darin MS

Thank You for your time and Help, and by the way my display name is Preacha07 not Preachera07. :)

  • Hi Preacha07,

Ack, my mind seemed to have combined Preacher and Preacha. My apologies.

As to why it worked the second time, to be honest, I was confused why you received an invalid error at all.  Your Diagnostic Report tells me that you still have time left on the Activation Grace Period, so Vista should not display any Genuine/Non-Genuine errors unless the grace period runs out before you re-activate. But even then, you would only get a notice and would still be able to use Vista normally.  Aside from that, I see no other error codes that would have caused that invalid error.

At this point, if you haven't already, go ahead and Activate your Vista and continue using it normally.  If, however, you get anymore Invalid or Non-genuine errors, generate another Diagnostic Report (while the issue is occuring), post it in a new thread and we'll see if I can get to the bottom of it.

    Thank you,
    Darin MS
