new renew subscription RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have had window live one care for a year. It expires tommorow.  I have purchased a new   cd of window live one care rather than renew online.  I uninstalled the old live one care and installed the new one.  One care still says  my subscription will expire tommorrow, how do I correct this?  Thank You.

  • You did not need to uninstall/reinstall. You simply needed to renew with the retail key.

Now that you reinstalled, by activating with the same LiveID, the new install inherited the subscription status of the existing subscription and you were not prompted for payment or a retail PIN/Key.

Go to http://billing.microsoft.com and sign in with your subscription LiveID. (Open OneCare and click help/about to view the subscription LiveID)

Select the OneCare subscription and click on the renew link.

Choose the option to renew with a prepaid PIN or token which is the retail product key.

Enter the 25 character key and proceed.

It can take up to 24 hours for the subscription status to be updated in OneCare.

If your subscription has expired, uninstall the current copy and install the new copy from http://onecare.live.com and activate with your LiveID and retail product key.

If you encounter any problems, contact support -

"Can't get it to work" and "forgot my account information" are either the same problem or different.

Assuming that the second statement is the reason you can't get it to work -

If you have an active subscription, which is what was created when you activated on the first computer, you need to use the same LiveID on the subsequent activations.

On the first PC, open OneCare and click Help and then About to see your Subscription ID. That is the LiveID to sign in with.

If you don't recall the LiveID you used for your subscription, you will need to contact support who can provide that information to you using your Key and/or contact information.

Alternatively, sign in at http://billing.microsoft.com  with email addresses that you have set up as LiveIDs and one will show your subscription listed - that would the LiveID to use to activate with.

If the activation dialog already contains a LiveID from a prior attempt or one used in trial mode, but this is not the one you need to activate with to associate it with your subscription, see this post for how to reset this - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2776450&SiteID=2

If your problem is more that just not remembering the account information, see the first link above for how to reach support. Use the path as a Trial User to open an email support case and begin with the fact that you don't recall the account information. Once that can be found, you can get support via phone.
