  • my pc had xp home edition installed on it when i bought it from PC W. my pc came with a floppy boot disk which i used many times when my pc crashed. it used to write new files on the existing partition - it didn't use a recovery system. i lost the floppy so i installed a non genuine copy of xp pro. if i were to get a xp home edition cd, would i be able to use the existing xp home edition COA key which is on my CPU as a label?

  • Hello Maliksmm,

You have have received the software media and a product key with the computer at the time of purchase. Sounds like the boot floppies were a recovery discs? Now you are talking about two versions of Windows, Home and Pro. As for your question. This will depend on how PC W installed your windows. Did they use an OEM version or OEM SLP.  The SLP is tied to the Bios of your machine. The best bet is contacting PC W and ask them to provide you with the Original Disc and product key.
