    I have been away for awhile and do not see the answer to this is any straight forward manner.

    My question is this, is WHS now safe to use as a file server for programs like MS Office?

    Yes. However, you may have problems if you store some Office files in folders that you have configured for remote access using Offline Files.
    I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
