New motherboard; says Product Key already in use

Question
-
Hello!
I run a home built computer with a retail copy of Vista Ultimate.
Recently, I had to replace my motherboard with a new one as the old one was malfunctioning.
When I try to activate Vista with my new mobo it says Product Key already in use. My most likely conclusion is that the validation service has associated my product key with the old mobo's on board NIC.
How can I remedy this problem?

You can reset your Windows Vista activation by performing the following:
1. Click on the Start button and in the Start Search box type in: slui.exe 4
2. Press the Enter key on your keyboard.
3. Select your Country.
4. Follow the instructions for phone activation.
5. Once completed, restart your computer.

I just had the exact same problem with home premium (mobo died, replacement requires re-activation) and vista is giving
me 3 days (from yesterday) to activate. When i try the online activation i get 'product key in use' and while trying to get
through to online technical support i was also given an "invalid product ID" message, about 99.9% sure i havent made a
mistake entering anything an the diag confirms my copy is genuine so im rather confused and frustrated, especially when i
find out that i could be potentially charged £46 for technical support solving a problem i havent caused! including diagnostic
in the hope it has an answer in it :/ and hopefully there's a simple solution.
