Windows Phone 7 Dynamics CRM Setup RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I ve installed the Dynamics CRM App on my WP7, we have CRM on premises, I entered the following information:

    CRM user name: domain\username

    CRM password :

    serverurl: http://<ipaddress>:5555

    Home Realm: https://

as soon as i hit next i get this error: Make sure that you have a network connection avaialbe and that you entered your server URL correctly.

I am connected to the office Wifi, and also i can browse to http://<ipaddress>:5555 from my phone, i get the lgin dialog, i type what i exactly typed in the app, and i get the IE version error message, but thats just to confirm that i can see the site at least.

am I missing something? is there a setting in CRM that should be turned on for wp7 access ?

    Thanks in advanced

  • Hi Ashraf.  That's not a supported configuration for the WP7 app.  WP7 requires IFD (Internet-facing deployment), which in turn requires SSL (secure sockets layer) to be configured.  SSL requires a hostname to operate properly.

You will need to enter your CRM server's name rather than its address.  Something like https://crm.contoso.com.

  • Hi Ashraf,

Would you happen to know what authentication mechanism your org uses? Is it NTLM/windows auth?

If it is, sorry, WP7 app does not support that.

    Thanks,

    Aniket.

  • It is NTLM/windows auth, oh well I guess I won't be able to use the app. Thanks for your answer.

  • I see, is there a reason for that? why wouldn't it support the non SSL CRM, not everyone have that, I had the same problem with using the office hub SharePoint with our local SharePoint site, it required claim based with FBA or something like that I think, I am not sure, what I am trying to say wouldn't it be nice if those great exclusive apps on the WP7 supports all kinds of deployments for Microsoft services? but thanks for your response and clarification I appreciate it.

  • One reason why you're seeing this stance is that the Windows Phone platform doesn't support NTLM natively.  While in theory we could build NTLM support, it's not our core competency and in practice would be very tricky to get right. I suspect (but don't know for sure) that Sharepoint has a similar point of view.

If NTLM support is important to you, I encourage you to file a feature request on http://connect.microsoft.com in the Dynamics product suggestions area.  That's our "official" intake mechanism for customer requests and puts the request in front of the right set of people.  Thanks, and I'm sorry that you're not able to use the app right now.
