  • Question

  • I am using sql server express edition for my project. But when i tried to open a connection using connection string i got an error that "under default settings sql server does not allow remote connections. Error: 40 Named Pipes. In the sql express help file it is mentioned that sql server allows only local connections but sql server 2005 enterprise edition allows you to create remote connections.

    So i want to know that is there any alternative for creating remote connections using sql express edition as i am not getting sql server 2005 enterprise edition. The deadline for code submission is very near so plz help me.

    Another thing that i want to know is that can we develop our project using sql server 2000.

  • Yes, you can develop it using SQL Server 2000. But, it is not free. And for that named pipes error, I am getting this error whenever I access database on remote SQL 2005 Express Database server.

    <connectionStrings>

    <add name="Data" connectionString="Data Source=SQLSERVERNAME;Initial Catalog=DBNAME;" />

    </connectionStrings>

    <connectionStrings>

    <add name="Data" connectionString="Server=SQLSERVERNAME;Database=DBNAME;Trusted_Connection=True;" />
