Is it possible to disable shortcuts (.lnk files) from running? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am only running Home Premium (Windows 7), so do not have access to gpedit, but is it possible otherwise (e.g., registry keys) to prevent .lnk files from executing their contents?

I can limit the drives a user has access to using [HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer!NoViewOnDrive], a .lnk file though is tantamount to using a command shell to circumvent this registry key (I can prevent users from running cmd.exe, powershell, etc., or any other means of bypassing Explorer and the Windows shell, but am totally flumoxed as to preventing a .lnk file from running a command).
