Contact listed as "unknown presence" RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am trying to add a contact from an external company but it's always listed as unknown presence and cannot send messages.

FYI: I already have more than 10 contacts from the same company and they are all working well.

Is it possible that the root cause is that the name is very long?

    Thanks for your help.

  • How long is it?  The attribute character limit is quite large.  Most likely you have an incorrect SIP address for that specific user.  Are they a PIC contact (Live/AOL/Yahoo) or Federated contact (another OCS environment)?

  • Thanks for your reply:

    - The name contains 20 characters including a "-".
    - The contact is from an OCS environment and all I did is adding him directly from an email I received. I also tried by adding the email address but same result.

The strange thing is that I just added a contact from this same OCS and it worked immediately.

    Thanks,

    Young.

  • That character length and 'included dash are fine.  I'm willing to bet that person's SIP address is not identical to their SMTP address, hence your failure to connect to him.  Or they aren't even SIP-enabled in the first place.

  • Does the sip address have a specific format?? like for SMTP: user@company.com?

    Thanks!
