ATA100 HD's RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am reusing and older motherboard (D845PESV)with a new ATA100 WD blue 500GB harddrive. I also am reusing a ligtly used 80GB WD harddrive-just because I have it. The question I have is with adding hard drives to the system. The motherboard only supports IDE and was wondering how many HD's I can put on the two IDE connectors I have. And if master and slave is that considered a good ideal to get two HD's on one IDE. I already have WHS up and running and loving it. But I would like to add more storage space.

  • Yes, you can have 2 (Master/slave) on one IDE cable That's it :)
You can add other IDE or SATA ports with a PCI controller card. Some of these are advertised as RAID cards, but you don't need that specific functionality.. any cheap one will do.
