800MHZ VIA C7 PROCESSOR RRS feed

  • Question

  • Attempting to build a quiet and low power server (no fans) would the C7 processor be adequate?  Has anyone already done this?

  • The Via processor you mention doesn't quite meet the minimum requirements. WHS should be able to run on it, however you will probably find that it's rather slow, and some functionality may be unusably slow (media streaming comes to mind).

  • I've got it running on a via 700 mhz.  Slow, but usable.

I'm running a via c3 800MHz (ASUS terminator 1). as others have stated -- it runs backups/restores fine (albeit a little slow), but can't comment on media streaming -- haven't attempted that yet.

  • Many thanks for your replies.  At least it's worth trying as I have a redundant Via MB, if I find it to slow I'll just have to upgrade to a 1.5ghz version
