  • Question

  • If I re-install Microsoft Office, don't I lose all my e-mail contacts, personal settings, etc...?

I'm almost certain my company purchase a genuine copy of Office 2003.  See my Validation Report below:

Below is a list of the products that did not pass validation and instructions for addressing each product. Recommended approach:

    • If a single product did not pass validation, take actions outlined below to get genuine Office
    • If multiple products did not pass validation, identify your most needed Office product or suite and take actions outlined below to get genuine Office. Uninstall other, non-genuine Office products that are preventing you from passing validation.

    Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003

Problem: The product key used to install Office has been identified by Microsoft as a key that was issued to a large, corporate customer. This key is reserved for the exclusive use of this customer, and cannot be used to install other copies of Microsoft Office.

Solution: If your computer belongs to a large organization and you believe you are receiving this message in error, talk to your system administrator.

If your computer does not belong to a large organization, you may be a victim of software counterfeiting. In that case, your best options to acquire genuine Microsoft Office are outlined on this Office Genuine Advantage web page. You can also contact the business where you purchased Office, purchased your computer with Office pre-installed, or had your computer serviced. Ask for their help to ensure that the copy of Office you purchased or received with the purchase of a new computer is genuine.

    To uninstall Office products:

    1. Quit all Office programs.
    2. Click Start , and then click Control Panel .
    3. Double-click Add or Remove Programs . (For Windows Vista, under Programs , click Uninstall a Program .)
    4. In the Currently installed programs list, locate and select products that did not pass validation
    5. Click Remove to remove the product(s) that you want to uninstall from the computer. (For Windows Vista, right-click product(s) and choose Uninstall .)

  • Hello BRB09,

Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:

    OGA Data-->
Office Status: 114 Blocked VLK 2
Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 - 114 Blocked VLK 2

    OGA Version: Registered, 2.0.48.0
    Signed By: Microsoft
    Office Diagnostics: 025D1FF3-230-1

Not sure what your company bought, but we can say for sure that the Office now installed on this particular Dell computer is nongenuine.

The report says you have a Blocked VLK, which means that (a) your Dell computer has a Volume Licensing edition of Office Professional Edition 2003 installed, and that (b) a Blocked Volume Licensing Key (VLK) was used to install it.  A "blocked" VLK is one that was issued by Microsoft to a business, educational institution, or governmental agency for their exclusive use in accordance with a Volume Licensing Agreement.  (Note that such use does NOT allow the resale of such VLKs.)  However, because the VLK may have been reported lost, stolen, or compromised to the internet by the original keyholder, or because the Volume Licensing Agreement has expired, Microsoft has blocked the VLK from further use.

If your use of this Volume Licensing edition of Office Professional Edition 2003 is in association with an organization that has a Volume Licensing Agreement, then please contact the IT support staff of the organization for further assistance.

If you are an individual consumer, you should never have been sold Volume Licensing materials such as a VL disc, and you certainly should not have received a Blocked Product Key.

Your first course of action is to confront your seller with this information and demand a full refund.

If the seller refuses to help, please file a piracy report at
www.microsoft.com/piracy.  Also, depending upon whether you received "high quality" counterfeit materials, you may qualify for the Office Complimentary Offer or for the Office Genuine Advantage discounted offer.  Please see the FAQ here:  http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx?displaylang=en#ID0EKNAC  If you would like to participate in the Office Genuine Offer, please click the Learn More Online link being displayed on your screen by the OGA Notifier utility.

Another possibility is that at one time your computer did have a Genuine installation of Office installed, but for some reason it was replaced with the current installation which is nongenuine.  This could have happened if you took your computer to a repair shop and they reinstalled Windows and/or Office and some or all of your programs.  You Get Genuine once again by uninstalling the current nongenuine installation of Office and using your Genuine Microsoft hologrammed Office installation CDs, along with the genuine Product Key found on your Office Edition's Certificate of Authenticity, to put back the genuine installation of Office you may have already had on the computer.

  • Hello BRB09,

The installation of Office Pro 2003 that is on the computer at the moment did not come from Dell.  The Office status of Office Status: 114 Blocked VLK 2  is assigned to one specific Office 2003 Volume Licensing Key (VLK), and that key ends in 3HFDY.  This VLK was the one that Microsoft issued to itself for its own installations of Office Pro 2003 on its on computers.  It is one of the most widely pirated products and product keys out there.

It's very possible that the computer did come from Dell with an installation of Office.  Such an installation could have been a Trial of Office.  Or, if the purchasing customer paid extra for it, it could have come from Dell with an OEM licensed installation of Office.  An OEM licensed installation of Office would have "OEM" in the place of where the number "640" is now in the PID, and would have a PID type of "8" instead of "14":  ><Pid>73931-640-0000106-57046</Pid><PidType>14</PidType></Product></

  • Hello BRB09,

Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:

    OGA Data-->
