Windows Home Server (WHS) 2011 - Disk 2 showing as "Not Initialized" - Was Working Properly RRS feed

  • Question

  • I noticed that I couldn't access some Shares on my WHS 2011 Server that were working fine for months. Today I looked at the "Disk Management" and realized that Disk 2 was displayed as "Unknown" and "Not Initialized". This is a Western Digital 2TB ATA Device.

FYI - The Drive was not displayed in the "BIOS", but it did show up under "Disk Management"

This Drive was working fine until the last couple of days. Is there a way to bring this Hard Drive back online without losing any of the data?

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot and correct this issue would be greatly appreciated.

  • hi,
    Setp 1 is very important.
1 you need to clone your unknown disk data to a greater than or equal to 2TB
another disk  by using clone software (like symantec).
2 Check if cloned data is in good condition in another disk.
If the data is fine ,you can go to step 3
If the data is broken , You need to contact Data recovery specialist .Any unprofessional operation will damage data.
3 According for your description ,you need to test hard disk by hard disk test software (like MHDD) and look if the disk was broken.
If the old disk is fine, you can format or initialize it then use it.
If the old disk is broken and in Warranty period , you need to contact disk vendor.
