off topic - networking problems after running online onecare scan and fix

General discussion

Hello,
Upon completion of the online scan I restarted the pc as requested but from then on I could no longer connect to the internet. I noticed that the networking folder was empty and after making several attempts to add/create a connection I realized that many services were stopped. from a msft support page I was instructed to reinstall sp1. I could no longer find sp1 available for donwload so i picked sp3 (xp professional). During installation I got the message that cryptographic service could not be verified and could not find it listed under services in control panel/admin tools. What can I do to get it back? Can I download the file from somewhere?
Thanks,

Hello Radu, I would first try restoring the registry entries that were removed by the Safety Scanner. How to restore registry keys after a cleanup - http://boards.live.com/safetyboards/thread.aspx?threadid=4867 If you need additional help I suggest the Safety Scanner boards - http://boards.live.com/safetyboards/board.aspx?BoardID=225 as this forum is for the discussion of the installed One Care product.

Thanks Jim. First issue: there is no Folder Options under tools. Anyway, I added "\Application Data" in the address bar and got access to the folder but there is no windows live safety center listed. What can I do?Monday, December 1, 2008 1:43 PM
