MCTS 2008 or 2010? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I need to get the MCTS.  I understand that I can take either

    70-515 ---> 2010  or

    70-536 ---> 2008

    First question does 70-536 give you the MCTS certification.  The web site (http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/exam.aspx?id=70-536) doesn't seem to explicitly say so while the 70-515 site does (http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/exam.aspx?id=70-515)?

    My other concern is Visual Studio 2010 isn't as widely adopted as 2008 and the study and learning materials of 2010 are in there first version whereas the 2008 version (at least study guide) is in version 2.

  • The 70-536 is still being given, however, it looks like it will be retiring. I disagree that VS2010 isn't as widely adopted. Also, you should consider always staying ahead of the curve. Remember, our industry is moving very quickly. VS2012 is in beta now. That means more things for you to learn.

    My advice, skip 70-536 and take 70-515. Thus, you will save some money and ready for what is coming in the near future. Also, if the rumors are true about Windows 8, then we should all brush up on HTML5/JavaScript/SVG. Dump Flash and maybe...forgive me Silverlight people...dump Silverlight.
