Trying to Update DirectX leads to the infamous [0xC004C4A5]... RRS feed

  • Question

  • It seems to me that this validation issue is linked with people trying to update their DirectX.

What stuck out to me was this in the Diagnoastic Report:

"OGA Version: Failed to retrieve file version. - 0x80070002"

I have had this issue before simply updating other software for Windows - but this is the first time it actually completely unvalidated my Windows Vista.

Just like everybodye else: I'm Pissed Off.

  • I'll repeat this one more time, it's not due to the DX update, nor is it due to the game bioshock. There are people who are experiencing these problems who installed neither of these things. It appears more like everyone is having the same problem.

So far the only thing that I could think of that we all have in common is Windows Update.

  • The only thing that I have changed recently on my PC was the installation of Office 2007 - short of that no changes to hardware etc, and yes I have completed Windows updates - it is always checking for this.

  • For anyone who is interested, here is a screen dump of what MS updates I have had over the last month.
I wonder which one broke it?

  • Your last update is for Defender so there aren't any updates that could have cause this, it looks like its a validation issue on Microsoft server, because i've just re tried to validate again and got an error on the page, it didn't go pass validation procedure, as i've refreshed it did work but again it said its not genuine and i'm using ultimate 32bit, fresh install like 10hrs ago (100% legit). Not good microsoft!
