Need Larger Diameter Circle RRS feed

  • <g>  Yet again we encounter the need for more PCs within one given Circle.  We are currently running 5 accounts (15 licenses) - and - we need more (24 +/-).  But, we are reluctant to move forward due to the current limitations on licenses per account and 3 PCs per circle.

We are a small business running SBS 2003 with 22 current clients (in fact we would like to see OneCare Server as well).  The Forefront product is not a realistic solution for us due to cost and management.  OneCare is a realistic solution but the limitation on 3 clients per circle is a management overhead issue that is causing us to delay further OneCare installations pending reviewing other options.

Plea to MS:  Please change OneCare to permit aggregating all clients into "One" circle.....optimally, we would prefer to aggregate all licenses into one account as well from a business purchasing perspective.  We need and want this now....not in version 3.x......at the very least please build this capability into V2.5.....

Thanks for a good product but, we who are using OneCare in a business environment need this issue addressed urgently.

  • Good news for you, then. The next version of SBS is currently in limited private beta. The press release earlier this year noted that OneCare will be deployed as a part of that next version of SBS, based on Windows Server 2008. It is due out in the 2nd half of 2008. I don't know how it will work, but my understanding is that there will be more administrative features for a Circle for the SBS environment. I imagine that the client licensing will match SBS licensing.

  • I'm a support technician for my local community. I did a quick and dirty scan of a customers computer at my location on my local network. I donwloaded OnceCare and then added the computer to my circle. I figured I don't realy need the extra connections.

I gave the computer back to the customer and found something I can't confirm. Is it true that I can still get the status (using the internet) even though the computer is not on my local network? Because I did not have any issues and stayed GREEN for about a month. Then the status went YELLOW only to find out that my customer's computer was still in my circle but did not have the latest Windows Updates.

If this is the case then I can I resell OneCare to my customers and add them to my Circle (my Mesh if you get OneCare hooked into mesh.com). I can then monitor and patch base on the status of the computer. If these things are not done then I would know before showing up to do maintenance. Or better yet I would know if I even would need to schedule an on site visit because if they are green then no need for a service call. Then tie it into mesh.com and I could just do a remote desktop connection to the client and patch with out an on site visit. Sorry getting to far in advance lets just get more than one client set up first.

Microsoft would also make more money from me selling OneCare. Also the support and problems would go down because a Technician could be more proactive than reactive. In theory the internet as a whole would be better because those who don't understand patching don't patch. And that can causes problems for the rest of the internet users. Now if I had the ability to monitor my customers then I could do the patching keeping things up to date and help preventing internet zombie computers.
