Windows 7 Says It's Not Genuine, When It Is RRS feed

    Hello folks,

Win 7 just locked, crashed, and reset.  After restarting the PC I received a message saying that my copy of Windows 7 isn't genuine.  What can I do to fix this?

Additionally, when I right-click on My Computer, choose properties, I see my system information ("System", "Computer name", and "Windows activation" along with the Windows Experience Index).  The data here says that Windows *IS* activated, but when Windows 7 loads, the screen is black and I receive a window saying that it's NOT genuine.  So it's all a bit confusing.

My copy of Windows 7 Home Premium is from one of the Family Packs that were sold around Win 7's release date, if that makes any difference.

Here is the diagnostic tool's data.  Thank you for your time and assistance.

  • Hello StepnSteph,

I have check the Product Key being used in your Windows and it shows as Valid and Genuine. In addition I don't see anything in your Diagnostic Report that would indicate a Genuine issue.

The first thing I suggest is going to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate and follow any directions provided.  Once Validation is complete, reboot and see if the error returns.

    Thank you,

    Darin MS
